Week of February 10th

Valentines Day

Parents, we will allow students to pass out Valentine’s Day cards at the end of the day on Thursday, February 13th.  Please do not send candy with the cards, but instead if you want to include a gift consider using school supplies or healthy snacks.  Thank you.

This week in:

Language Arts-  Comparing and Contrasting, and being able to describe the relationship between two or more things.  Identifing and using possessive and common nouns.

Math–  Continue our unit on Understanding Fractions. Students will be able to partition a whole into equal parts and define the equal parts as a unit fraction numerically.

Writing-  Continue our work on a Writing Performance Task that models the end of year CAASPP test.  Students will be reading 2 articles about Astronauts, then answering prompts citing both articles as a resource.

Social Studies- Begin unit on Communities.  Students will learn how communities began in California, focusing on who were the early explorers, identifying their routes on a map, and using a time line.

With your child: “What is a fraction?” (Fractions represent equal parts of a whole. For example, ½ means there are 2 equal parts, and only 1 is selected.) Ask them to draw a picture for ½.
