Week of January 27th

This week in:

Language Arts-  Continue our focus on identifying the main idea and sequence of events.

Math–  Wrap up our unit on organizing data to make meaning and answer questions. Begin our unit on Understanding Fractions. Fractions represent parts of a whole.

Writing-  Work on a Writing Performance Task that models the end of year CAASPP test.  Students will be reading 2 articles about Astronauts, then answering prompts citing both articles as a resource.

Science- Continue unit on Weather and Climate and the tools meteorologists use to forecast the weather.

 

 With your child: “What did you do that was creative?” (Checking in with your child to know what they enjoy working on.  Do they prefer “hands on” crafts, or using their brains? Don’t forget to share a special moment from your day with them too.)

Week of January 20th

This week in:

Language Arts-  Find main idea and key details in an informative article.  Use this week’s article and last week’s in writing a response to a prompt.

Math–  Continue unit on organizing data to make meaning and answer questions. Test on Friday.

Writing-  Using facts from 2 informative articles, write an opening paragraph for a narrative about using the first telephone at home.

Science- Continue unit on Weather and Climate?

 

 With your child: “Can you tell me an example of kindness you saw/ showed?” (Checking in with your child to know what they appreciate.  Don’t forget to share a special moment from your day with them too.)

Math–  Organize data to make meaning and answer questions.

Writing-  Continue our work on “Opinion” responses. “Should schools be year round?”

Science-  What is the difference between Weather and Climate?
