Week of July 29th

This week in:

 We will continue assessments in reading with the STAR (AR) test on Tuesday morning and the Level Set (Achieve Lexile Level) test on Wednesday.

Language Arts- Introduce the Close Reading strategy to be used with non fiction texts and how to write summaries.  We work on identifying the main idea and text features.

Math–   Continue our work on place value with a focus on rounding, addition and subtraction.

Writing- We will be assessing students on their personal narrative writing skills.

Social Studies/ Science- We will be exploring the Desert habitat and geography, and how plants and animals adapt to survive there.

 

Question to ask your child: “What desert plant did you learn about this week and what physical features help it to survive?” (Saguaro Cactus: waxy skin- holds in water, long roots- collect rain water and anchor to rocks, accordion body- expands to hold water.)

Week of July 22nd

Hello and welcome!

      The Third Grade Team is excited to meet and get to know all of our new students.  Our first week back will focus on community building and setting classroom expectations.  In Third Grade your son or daughter will begin the transition from the primary grades to upper grades.  We’re confident that they will meet this challenge of increased responsibility and academic rigor. 

 This week in:

Language Arts–   Assessments in reading and writing will be taking place to allow us to establish a starting point and monitor our students learning growth over the school year.

Math–  We’ll begin by assessing number sense, adding and subtracting skills.  Then begin reviewing these standards as needed to prepare for our unit on multiplication.

 

Question to ask your child: “What is one thing you learned about your classroom or teacher?”  “What is the name of a new student and where are they from?”  “What did you learn about them?”  “What was your favorite part of the day and why?”
