Week of May 27th

Memorial Day image

The Chalk Walk is coming on Thursday!  Students will spend time coloring on the sidewalk to create a classroom picture.  They will be showing off what they learned about sharks and animal adaptations.  Please have students wear comfortable clothes and “play” shoes for working with chalk on the sidewalk.  Thank you.

This week in:

Language Arts–   New items will be added to the choice menu to practice and demonstrate what they have learned this year.  Knowledge will be demonstrated electronically using PowerPoint to create slides, Posters to create diagrams, Poetry and more. 

Math–  Review with students; Subtraction algorithm, Area and Perimeter and Fractions on a number line.

Science – Continue unit on gravity: Using air and static electricity to overcome gravity.

Question to ask your child: “What are examples of ways animals overcome gravity?” (Birds use their wings to fly in the air, monkeys hang/ pull themselves in the air with their arms and legs, grasshoppers jump ….)

 

Upcoming Events

5/28 All school library books need to be returned. 

5/29 Staff Appreciation Luncheon. Students will not have a morning recess, however they will have an extended lunch time starting at 11:30-12:15, then an extended lunch recess till 1pm.

5/30  Chalk Walk.  After school take a stroll down the sidewalk in front of the school to see chalk art created by each classroom.

5/30  Spring Music Showcase 6:30pm in the MPR

6/5  Last day of School

Week of May 20th

This week in:

Language Arts–   Students will utilize a choice menu to practice and demonstrate what they have learned this year.  Knowledge will be demonstrated electronically using PowerPoint to create slides, Posters to create diagrams, Poetry and more.

 Math–  Summative classroom test on 3rd grade standards will be given on Tuesday.  This will help the teachers to create a plan of review and support the students transition to 4th grade.

Science – Continue unit on gravity focusing on motion and the science of roller coasters.

Question to ask your child: “What was your favorite activity for the choice menu, and why?” (Students are working on various activities both individually and in small groups this week during our morning Language Arts time and afternoon writing lessons.)

Happy Mothers Day

This week in:

Language Arts–   Students will work on various English language arts projects during the rest of our testing week.

Math–  End of year math testing will happen this week on Tuesday through Thursday.

Science – What is gravity? Students will be able to explain their understanding of gravity, and the forces push and pull.

Question to ask your child: “Finish Newton’s first law of motion: An object at rest will remain at rest ________________  (unless acted upon by another force.  For example a ball will sit still unless it is kicked (pushed) by your foot.)

This week in:

Language Arts–   State Testing begins on Tuesday.

Writing– Finish Opinion writing from last week.  Practice writing poems and friendly letters. Review our three writing prompts; Informative, Opinion and Narratives.

Math–  Continue unit on Geometry and categorizing plane shapes.

 

Question to ask your child: “Describe a rectangle using your math vocabulary words.”  (A rectangle has 4 right angles and 4 line segments.)
