Language Arts–   Read and respond to a Poem

Spelling- Hard and Soft “c”

Writing– Continue our “Astronauts” writing of an informative and opinion responses using 2 sources and citing evidence.

Question to ask your child  “What do you start an Opinion essay with? (A “hook” sentence.  It can be a question using words from the prompt.  It’s a way of grabbing the reader’s attention and should be on topic. It can also be a fact.)

Math– Continue our unit of understanding and comparing fractions

Language Arts–   Identifying Genre Text Features

Spelling- Variant Vowel, the “ah” sound

Writing– Continue our “Astronauts” writing of an informative and opinion responses using 2 sources and citing evidence.

Math– Continue our unit of understanding fractions

Question to ask your child Have them label a number line in fourths from 0-2.  Now using the number line, add ¼ + ¼ + ¼ = ?  (3/4).  Can they show this using a fraction strip or circle?

Math– Continue our unit of understanding fractions

Question to ask your child “Show me a picture for ¾?” (They should be able to draw a rectangle, circle or number line.)

Social Studies-  Continue our unit on California’s Native Americans

 

 Upcoming Events

  • February 6th– Fieldtrip! Madison and Sullivan classes to Living Coast Discover Center.  Please make sure your child has proper clothing and walking shoes.  We will be outside, near the bay.  Don’t forget to pack a lunch.
  • February 9th – Jump Rope for Heart Please make sure students are wearing proper shoes.  All students will be participating in the jump rope activities.
