This week in:

Language Arts–   Finding figurative language in our AR books and classwork.

Spelling- “ow” and “ou” vowel partners

Writing– Writing an informative response using 2 sources and citing evidence.

Math– Understanding Fractions

Question to ask your child “What does the numerator represent?” (It is the top number of a fraction and it represents how many equal parts are selected.)

Social Studies-  Continue our unit on California’s Native Americans

 

 Upcoming Events

  • February 6th– Fieldtrip! Madison and Sullivan classes to Living Coast Discover Center.  Please make sure your child has proper clothing and walking shoes.  We will be outside, near the bay.  Don’t forget to pack a lunch.
  • February 9th – Jump Rope for Heart Please make sure students are wearing proper shoes.  All students will be participating in the jump rope activities.
  • February 13th– Fieldtrip! Nixon, Hernandez and Thomas classes to Living Coast Discover Center
  • February 15th– Dances with Wolves @ 2pm

Week of January 22nd

Science and Technology night is at 6:30pm this Thursday, January 25th for our 3rd – 6th graders.

Spelling- Long and Short “oo”

Writing– Writing an informative response using 2 sources.

Math– Understanding Fractions

Week of January 8th

Science and Technology night is coming up on January 25th for our 3rd – 6th graders.  Students will be working individually on assigned science experiments using household items and perhaps items from the Dollar store.

Projects are due on Monday, January 22nd.

 

This week in:

Language Arts–  Exploring Folktales.

             Questions to ask your child: “What are Metaphors?”  (A metaphor is a figure of speech that describes an object or action in a way that isn’t literally true, but helps explain an idea or make a comparison. Ie “Life is a rollercoaster.” “Time is money”)

 

Spelling- No spelling words this week.

 

Writing– Finish our narrative we started in December.

 

Math– Review our unit on Representing and Interpreting Data

Social Studies- Begin unit on California’s Native Americans
