Week of December 4th

Science and Technology night is coming up on January 25th for our 3rd – 6th graders.  Students will be working individually on assigned science experiments using household items and perhaps items from the Dollar store.  Instructions will be coming home later this week so they can get a head start on the fun.

This week in:

Language Arts–  Identifying key details in text.

             Questions to ask your child: “What is Personification?”  (It is when you assign the qualities of a person to something that isn’t human or that isn’t even alive. For example, “Rita heard the last piece of pie calling her name.”)

Spelling- Vowel-r syllable pattern

Writing– Finish our “Izzy the Dog” writing of a personal narrative using information from 2 articles.  Begin research on a new topic to prepare for another personal narrative.

Math– Review results from test on using place value to subtract and round. Begin unit on Organizing Data using Bar Graphs and Tape Diagrams. This will include using rulers to measure fractional inches.

Social Studies- Continue unit on historical figures in our local community.
