Week of August 4th

   Hello Parents, we plan on sending weekly progress reports home to you starting the week of August 7th. We are currently wrapping up our beginning of the year assessments. Please feel free to contact us prior, if you have any questions about your child’s behavior or classroom participation.  

     Homework packets go home on Mondays and will be due the following Monday. Please review the packet nightly for completeness. Nightly reading is expected and encouraged. Reading can be AR books, magazines, recipes, or directions/ instructions for games and activities.

This week in:

Language Arts– Continue Fluency Assessments, Finish the STAR testing to determine AR (reading) level, and Lexile Level testing for Achieve 3000 reading levels. Continue our work on the Close Reading strategy and identifying the main idea of informational texts.

       Student Question: “What is a text feature and why do we need them?”

Spelling- Short Vowels     See the Homework Packet for the spelling list.

Writing– Continue working on; a Personal Narrative inspired by the book Wimberly Worried. Start modeling an Informative written response for the students.

Math– Continue our review of Number Sense and Place Value, Addition and Subtraction within 1,000 and Number Patterns. Unit assessment on Friday.

Social Studies- Physical and Human Geography: California Regions

Student Question: “What are the regions of California we discussed in class?” (Coastal, Desert, Mountains, or Central Valley)

Upcoming Events

    • August 2nd Family Dinner Night at Chipotle 4pm – 8pm (2290 Otay Lakes Rd) 50% of the proceeds will be donated to Wolf Canyon.
    • August 15th PTA General Meeting at 6pm
    • August 17th– Curriculum Night starts at 5:30pm. There will be three separate, back-to-back complete sessions. For those who have more than 1 student attending Wolf Canyon, you’ll be able to visit all of your teacher’s classrooms.

     Hello parents and welcome to the 3rd grade blog. Below you will find information on what your child will be working on in class each week. Please take advantage of this information by asking questions of your child to check for understanding. Examples of Student Questions are provided below.

       Student Question: “What is a Compass Rose?” (A map key that show directions; North , South, East and West.) “What are some examples of landforms?”

    • July 27th– Parent Academy Night.  There will be 4 separate 20 minute sessions starting at 6pm.  Please join us for any one of them.
    • August 17th– Curriculum Night starts at 5:30pm.       There will be three sessions, for those who have more than 1 student attending Wolf Canyon. You’ll be able to visit all of your teacher’s classrooms.

17th   Curriculum Night- 3 back-to-back sessions starting at 5:30pm .  The multiple sessions allow you to visit multiple teachers if you have more than one student here at Wolf Canyon.
