Week of May 29th

Mad Science logo

Mad Science is coming May 30th for our 3rd Graders from 12:40 – 2:40!  The students will be rotating through to different science stations.

 This week in:

Language Arts–  Continue working with Poetry Elements, Figurative Language and various articles to practice comprehension strategies.

Science – Continue unit on Force and Motion. Question to ask your child; “What are Magnetic Poles?” “Can you use the words attract and repel when discussing magnets?”

Writing–  Finish working on Trickster Tale books. Students will share their books with their Reading Buddies.

Math– End of year Review. Topics will vary by classroom depending on individual student’s needs. Students may log on to Think Central to practice current lessons by clicking on “Interactive Student Edition”. The Go Math!/ Think Central web page link is on the right of this page. “Step by Step” help is available during the Personal Math Trainer portion of the lesson. Lesson videos can be found within each lesson, or by going to “Math on the Spot Videos”.

o  May 29th Memorial Day- No school

o  May 30th   Second visit from Mad Science for in class experiments.  PTA grants are covering the expense of these exciting events for our Third Graders.  Thank you to all of our PTA parents!!!

o  May 31st School Wide Chalk Walk Event

o May 31st Volunteer Recognition Dinner, 6:30pm. Anyone who has volunteered, in any way this school year is welcomed to attend.

o June 1st   School lunch “picnic style” on the grass field and the Teachers versus 6th grade softball game.

o  June 2nd   Last day of school.  Report cards will be coming home.

Science – Continue unit on Force and Motion. Question to ask your child; “Can you give me an example of Newton’s 3rd Law?” (For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. For example, A balloon filled with air will race around a room if the air is allowed to escape. It will shortly fall to the ground due to gravity.)

Week of May 15th

Mad Science

Mad Science is coming May 15th and 30th for our 3rd Graders!

We will have not one, but two special assemblies this Monday, May 15th, from 9:50 – 11:45.

**The students still have two more assessments to complete. We will be doing our Level Set test on Tuesday and Wednesday this week. This is their Achieve Level score.

The second assessment is their STAR test which is their AR reading level.

 This week in:

Science – Start new unit on Force and Motion. Questions to ask your child; “What is gravity?” “What would happen if there was no gravity?” “Who is Isaac Newton?” “Can you tell me about one of Newton’s Laws?”

Writing–  Continue work on Trickster Tale book. Finish a narrative story based on the “Astronauts” articles.

Math– Continue Chapter on Geometry. Students may log on to Think Central to practice current lessons by clicking on “Interactive Student Edition”.
