Week of May 1st

State testing starts tomorrow morning and continues through May 8th. We will take one test each morning. Please encourage your child to do their best and send them to school with positive thoughts.

No Homework this week so they can relax for testing week!

 

This week in:

Language Arts–  We’ll be working on grammar and punctuation in our writing lessons.

Science – Continue Weather and Climate Unit. Questions to engage your student with. “What is a storm?” “Name one kind of storm you discussed in class today?”

Writing–  Continue work on Trickster Tale book. Finish a narrative story based on the “Astronauts” articles.

Math– Continue Chapter on Geometry. Students may log on to Think Central to practice current lessons by clicking on “Interactive Student Edition”. The Go Math!/ Think Central web page link is on the right of this page. “Step by Step” help is available during the Personal Math Trainer portion of the lesson. Lesson videos can be found within each lesson, or by going to “Math on the Spot Videos”.

o May 15th Mad Science assemblies. We are bringing the Field Trip to our school. Mad Science will present here at Wolf Canyon, two special presentations for our Third Graders. They won’t want to miss this day!

o May 30th   Working on a second visit from Mad Science for in class experiments. Stay tuned next week for details. PTA grants are covering these exciting events for our Third Graders. Thank you to all of our PTA parents!!!

No Spelling Words this week.

Achieve homework “Flying to Better Weather”  Activity Questions due next Monday. Informational Response for the Thought Question.

Science – Weather and Climate. “How are clouds formed?” “What are three different types of clouds?”

Writing–  Continue work on Trickster Tale. Create a rough draft for a narrative based on the “Astronauts” articles.

Math– Wrap up unit on Time, Measurement, Volume and Weight. Begin Chapter on Geometry. Students may log on to Think Central to practice current lessons by clicking on “Interactive Student Edition”. Writing–  Review and edit student’s own trickster tales. Finish creating a “Meet the Author” paragraph and a “Dedication” for their books. Create page breaks to prepare for publishing. Begin pasting story into book and illustrating.

Math– Begin Unit on Time, Measurement, Volume and Weight. We will continue to spiral back and revisit fractions. Students may log on to Think Central to practice current lessons by clicking on “Interactive Student Edition”. * San Diego Youth Symphony (SDYS) Informational Meeting

   Mr. Juan Palacios will be visiting Wolf Canyon on Friday, April 14 at 1:15pm to share information about the programs offered by San Diego Youth Symphony and how SDYS can help support the development of our young musicians.  SDYS has a number of programs that cater to all levels and abilities from absolute beginners and up. All parents who are interested in finding out more are welcome to attend.  Juan will be in our music room to meet with parents and students at 1:15pm, please join us.

* We will continue to collect $2.75 donations for the cost of Trickster Tale Books. Thank you to all of you who have already sent money in.
