Week of April 27, 2015

The Apex Fun Run was a total blast! Thank you to everyone who donated to Wolf Canyon! You guys rock!
State testing is HERE!!!!! Third graders begin the CAASPP today, Monday, April 27th. Some tips to help your student prepare and do his or her very best include:
  • Being ON TIME EVERY DAY! We are testing every day next week, and there will be prizes for students with perfect attendance all week!
  • Wearing comfortable clothes.
  • Getting plenty of rest throughout the week.
  • Having a healthy breakfast full of protein and complex carbs (oatmeal and fruit, whole wheat toast and scrambled eggs, even a big bowl of Cheerios with fruit.). Try to avoid sugary cereals that will only cause students to crash midway through the day.
  • Practicing typing skills on typing websites such as Dance Mat Typing, Rapid Typing, or any other website your child’s teacher may have recommended.
  • Getting familiar with the testing format using the practice CAASPP. Go to http://www.cde.ca.gov/ta/tg/sa/practicetest.asp and click on Take the Practice or Training Test
  • And, of course, relaxing and doing your personal best!

Our school is asking for donation of baby wipes and water bottles for our upcoming Chalk Walk. If you can, please send donations to your teacher. Each teacher also needs 2 shoe boxes. If you have one to donate, please check with your teacher to see if she is in need!

Week of April 6, 2015

Welcome Back!! Please remember that school resumes on Monday, April 6, 2015, and it is a REGULAR day!
Congratulations to the students who completed the Spring Break KidBiz Challenge! Any students who earned 75% or higher on at least 3 activities between March 21 and April 4 will be eligible to have lunch in the classroom with their teacher. Your teacher will let students know who earned the lunch reward, and when it will happen.

We are in need of a few things to help our students create their Trickster Tales: glue sticks and white printer paper to print out the finished tales and glue into the books. We would appreciate any donations you might be able to bring in!

Be a part of our 1st annual Wolf Canyon Film Festival. All Wolf Canyon students are eligible to enter a film in the festival.
The Film Categories are:
*STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics)
*Book Review (Do not tell how the book ends)
*How-To
*Creative Art (poetry, music, dance, storytelling, etc.).Each category will have a grade K-2 winner and a grade 3-6 winner!
Video submission deadline is on April 10, 2015. For more information please visit wolfcanyonvideoclub.wordpress.com or you may contact Mr. Riggs at zachary.riggs@cvesd.org

Homework:

In addition to reading 20 minutes a night, we would like students to work on their Trickster Tales. Rough drafts need to be typed and emailed to your child’s teacher by Friday, April 10. If your child would like to create a hard-back book, the cost is $3. This is a fun third grade tradition, and we encourage all students to create a wonderful keepsake to share with friends and family.

Looking Ahead:

  • Intergenerational Games Field Trip: April 9. Please be at school between 8:30 and 8:45. Late students will miss out on this exciting field trip! Please send students in comfortable clothing that they can be active in, as well as sunscreen, a hat, and a snack for the afternoon (snacks and lunch will be provided at the event, but students tend to get EXTRA hungry after being active all day!). Also, please return permission slips no later than Wednesday, April 8. We will not be accepting them the day of the trip.
  • Our 2nd Grade Musical performance is Thursday, April 16th at 6:30 pm,  in the auditorium.
