This is the final week of school before the end of the second quarter. Students will be receiving report cards by the end of the week. Look for them in your student’s backpack!
The Holiday Gift Shop will take place December 15 – 18 in room 703. This is a great opportunity for your child to buy gifts for family and friends. You can preview the gifts on Monday, the 15th, then send money in the envelope that came home last week. Please send the money on the day that your class is scheduled to go to the Gift Shop.
Monday, December 15 is the PTA General Meeting at 7:00 pm.
This week in:
- Language Arts: Opinion – Should Schools Be Year-Round?
- Writing: Narrative – The Day I Got Trapped In a Snow Globe
- Math: Topic 3 – Multiplication
- Social Studies: Chula Vista History Play
Homework:
No homework is assigned this week! We recommend you continue to read for 20 minutes a night, as well as practice your multiplication facts!
The weather is finally starting to cool off. Please make sure your student is wearing appropriate outerwear, especially in the morning. As per Mrs. McLaren: When the weather is cold, no jacket, no outdoor play.
Multiplication is a HUGE part of math from third grade and beyond, and we are working on knowing all multiplication facts 0-10 automatically. Students must know these facts before they leave third grade, or they will struggle in math in later grades. And even if your child has passed every multiplication quiz, they need to practice routinely so they do not forget the facts they worked so hard to learn. Some ideas for how you can help your child at home include flash cards; multiplication.com, xtramath.org, and abcya.com; practicing rapid-fire in the car, during commercials, or at dinner, et cetera.
